SHOKUTSU-10

Posted by: zhuzhuyaya on: October 4, 2008

Watched 都是大发现, a local variety, on Tuesday night with ah gon and the hosts introducing the Singapore’s First Japanese Food Street: SHOKUTSU-10 and of cos, food always caught our eyes so we decided to visit the place after his second book out, which is yesterday.

Shokutsu 10 Osaka, which cost $5 million to set up, is made up of six different restaurants lined up to form a food street, each with specialty items from Osaka on the menu.

It is modelled after Dotonbori, a famous food street in Osaka, Shokutsu 10 – which means food paradise in Japanese

The 10,000 sq ft space is owned by Japanese food company RE&S, which is behind established Japanese restaurants such as Kuriya and Ichiban Boshi, and five of the six restaurants here are operated by them.

Apart from the usual suspects such as Ichiban Sushi, Kuishin Bo and a Kuriya Japanese Fresh Fish Market, there are also two new outlets – teppanyaki joint Yaki Yaki Bo and ramen house Men Ichi. Each restaurant here has food items from Osaka.

At Kuishin Bo, for example, there is a stand serving takoyaki, or battered octopus balls, an Osaka speciality, and over at Yaki Yaki Bo, another Osaka dish, okonomiyaki, a savoury pancake filled with meat and seafood, is grilled before your eyes at one of the three large tables fitted with iron griddles.

Even the teppanyaki here is served Osaka style, on a piece of bread instead of the usual aluminum foil.

Ichiban Sushi, which has eight other outlets, will be introducing specialty items such as Osaka-style sushi (rice wrapped over the fish) and fugu (puffer fish) dishes next month.

I chose Yaki-Yaki Bo, teppanyaki Delight, because I was attracted by their Okonomiyaki on the menu.

We ordered 2 sets of Okonomiyaki (Prawn), which is a wrong move as 1 set is enough for a couple and you can also try something new, and another set of live prawn. (include the following side dish: salad, bean sprout, fried rice(Tamago/ginger) and chawanmushi)

Tamago fried rice

Chawanmushi, not in the usual style that I always ate.

This chef is call ah hua. He was doing our Okonomiyaki-s. He is very nice lo! After he finished cooking, he placed the food in front of me and said I can take photo. Haha… He told us that we shouldn’t ordered 2 sets of Okonomiyaki cos it is made out of flour, taste the same and will make us very full. He said good food only need to be ate once and we can order other item to try out also. It is my first time talking to chef in person !! Haha…

Ah hua chef just used his two “weapon” at hand to peel of the prawn’s skin within seconds man!! QIANG !!!

Our live prawn set !! It should be eat on the spot when it is still hot. By the time I ate it, it has already cold so it is not that nice.

As I previously quoted in the blog, the teppanyaki here is served Osaka style, on a piece of bread instead of the usual aluminum foil.

End of my 1st time trying specialty items from Osaka… Sayorana !!

Total damage: $53.08 (Live prawn set, $16.90 + 2 Ebi Okonomiyaki, $21.80 + Tamago rice, $2 + coke, $2.20 + Ice lemon tea, $2.20 + GST(7%) + Service charge(10%))
